Ahvenanmaa. The Ahvenanmaa is the biggest island of Finland and is located towards Sweden and Southwest of mainland. The Ahvenanmaa has good ferry and road connections and offers comfortable accomodation and good fishing for seatrout. Ahvenanmaa is famous for long shallow beaches that suit excellent for fishing.

Fly Fishing, Spin Fishing. The fishing for seatrout on Eckerö is often magnificent. The flats are generally easy to wade and the season is long. You will wade gravel flats, reefs and sometimes even sand to rendezvous with the seatrout, which often hunts very close to the shore. In many areas it is possible to wade close to the shelf separating the shallow flat from the deeper water, where large quantities of baitfish and shrimp is gathered due to the breaking of the waves. Species you can catch there are seatrout and sometimes rainbow trout. The average weight of the seatrout is about 4 lbs but specimens up to 18 lbs is caught every year. Please bring your own waders and fishing tackle with you.

Fishing Tackle. For fly fishing for seatrout on Ahvenanmaa, Eckerö we recommend 9-10 ' feet single handed fast rods for lines #7-9 and suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Floating or intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines. Spin fishing will be done best with 8-10' spinning rods.

Flies, Lures. Good fly patterns are for example Drags Devil, Haili, Graft fur streamers, Magnus and Pattegrisen. Good spoons are Toby, Salamander, Krocodile, Vicke, colours: silver, orange.

Season. The seatrout season is more or less from mid October to mid May. It might be cold in the Ahvenanmaa in late autumn although not as cold as in many other parts of Finland. But there is a certain charm in fly fishing late autumn months; the fishing is very good and most fish is silver coloured and in great condition.

Accomodation. Accomodation is in nice and well equipped self catering cabin, close the sea and fishing places. Double bedrooms, wc, shower, sauna, well-equipped kitchen.

Travel arrangements.  Fishing trips to Finland, Ahvenanmaa, Eckerö will always be hosted trips. Customers will take care of car transports to destination and back by themselves.
