Fly Fishing, Spin Fishing. Ascension Bay area is called the paradise of tropical fishing and considered as one of the best places for 'Grand Slam' (catching tarpon, bonefish and permit during same day). This huge area consists of several different type of flats; white sand, marl and turtle grass that can be waded and fished from boat as well. Fishing season is year round and fishing can be done with single hand fly rod or with spinning gear. There are not many tropical fishing places in the world which can offer as variable and good fishing as fishing on Ascension Bay. Tarpon, bonefish, permit, several Jacks and big barracudas can be fished during the same day. Local Mayan fishing guide will take you by boat to different fishing places and show where and when to cast. They know the fishing places like their own hands and their english is adequate. There are some very good flats within 20 minutes from the lodge, though most destinations are about 45 minutes away. An added plus is the saltwater reef fishing. Here you can encounter barracuda, king and sierra mackerel, grouper, jack crevalle and false albacore.

Fishing tackle. 7 or 8 weight fly rod for bonefish and one 9 or 10 weight for tarpon and permit. High-performance reels with a good brake system are required, capable of holding 200 - 250 yards of 20-pound backing. Weight forward floating fly lines. Intermediate line is recommended for tarpon. For bonefish and permit 12-foot knotless leaders, and 12-pound fluorocarbon shock tippet. For tarpon 16 to 20-pound test bimini twist leaders and 50 or 60 pound monofilament hard shock tippet.

Flies. Bonefish flies should be light-weight and with a hook protection. Clouser Minnow, Crazy Charlie, Bonefish Special, Gummy Minnow and small crabs tied on hooks 4 or 6, sand and light-brown. Permit: Rag Head Crab, Brown Special, Velcro Crab and Del´s Merkin tied on hooks 2 and 4. For tarpon and snook: streamers, deceivers and seaducers on hooks 1/0 brown and orange, black and yellow, orange and yellow, olive and white, Black Death and Purple Death. The Gummy Minnow is a terrific pattern for tarpon.

Accomodation. The guests will accomodate at Guesthouse, located in small village Punta Allen. The lodge is known as one the oldest fishing lodges of the area and the rooms are breezy palapas or native thatced cabanas all offering ocean view. Lodge has a wonderful restaurant and a new full service bar. Dinners feature seafood, lobster, fresh fish, tropical fruits and vegetables.

Travel Arrangements. Fishing trips to Ascension bay will be arranged throughout the year and the packages can be booked according to the client’s preferred dates subject to availability. Anglers take international flight to Cancun and meet taxi driver at the airport and they will be taken to Ascension Bay. The car drive will take approx 4 hours. After fishing period the taxi will take the anglers back to Cancun airport.
