Fly fishing
trips to one of the most famous salmon rivers in Scotland,
the Dee. Fishmaster will arrange a hosted trip to the Dee on
10-17.3.2013. The destination will be the
Banchory beat
on
middle Dee. March is a very good fishing month on
the Dee and Banchory beat is one of the best beats of the river. The host
will be Jouni Rauha and we also have a
local fishing guide, ghillie.
Dee.
The Dee is located in the east of Scotland. It is
very famous and one of Scotland's big four salmon rivers.
The Dee is well known for its early run salmon and
fishing season starts already on 1st of February. The fishing on the river Dee is catch and
release.
Fly Fishing. Our fly fishing
group will fish the Banchory Beat on middle Dee. This is superb fly fishing water which fishes
well in a wide range of heights. The Banchory beat is 1,1 km long and consists
both banks, there will be plenty of room for every
fisherman as only 4 rods are allowed. Five year average catch of
Banchory beat is 346 salmon and 96 seatrout, total of 442 fish in season. The season
2010 was excellent and 503 salmon and 154 seatrout, total 657 fish
was caught. The beat consists interesting pools
and there are some excellent runs and lies to fish.
Situated near the small town
of Banchory, this fascinating beat extends downstream from
Banchory Bridge, through eleven named pools, to the turbulent
Station Stream below. The River Feugh makes a positive
influence on the pools around the junction, with the Hotel pool
into which it flows being perhaps the most productive on the
whole of the river. The Hotel pool is very easy wading and is
considered by many to be one the finest fly pool on the river. It is
here that salmon, grilse and sea trout gather, at times in large
numbers, waiting for the right conditions to enter the Feugh and
ascend upstream to the spectacular Falls of Feugh. Fish heading
further up The Dee toward their spawning grounds can stop and
lie in all of Banchory beat's pools as they progress through the
beat. There is a spacious well equipped fishing
hut with cooking and WC facilities. Ample parking space is
provided adjacent to the hut.
Fly Fishing Tackle.
For fly fishing for salmon on the Dee
we recommend 12-15 ' feet double handed rods for lines #8-11 and
suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Sink tip or
intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines but please
bring also medium sinking fly line for possible high water
conditions.
Flies. Good salmon fly
patterns for
Dee are: Dee Sheep, Willie Gunn, Black Sheep, Black & Yellow, Munroe
Killer, Cascade, Monkey Fly, Allys Shrimp and Garry.
Accomodation for guests will be in
Scottish
house close the beat. In the house there is a toilet, a shower,
a living
room, a well equipped kitchen and double bedrooms. We will cook the food
in accomodation or dine at local pubs.
Travel Arrangements. Fishing trips
to the Dee are always hosted trips. Anglers will first take flight to
Aberdeen. At the Aberdeen airport they will meet host Jouni Rauha and
continue to Dee by car, it is only an hour drive to Banchory destination.
