Fly fishing for salmon on Gaula
River in Mid-Norway. Fishmaster runs world class Gaula Flyfishing
Lodge. A Good private 4,6 km long Fishmaster fly fishing beat on middle
Gaula river. The biggest fish of Gaula season 2006: 20.8 kg
salmon was caught from our Bruahölen pool. Also the biggest
salmon of the Gaula season 2007, a monster salmon of 20.2 kg was
caught from our Stasjonshölen pool. During the season 2008 total
of 322 salmon and seatrout were caught at our Fishmaster Gaula beat. The season
2009 total was again good and 251 salmon and seatrout were caught by our fly
fishermen.
Gaula. Gaula is one of the best salmon rivers in Norway
and flows into the Atlantic Ocean close Trondheim. Gaula is
famous for its big size salmon, the biggest are a round 20
kilos. The annual catch from the Gaula river varies
between 30-50 tons of salmon.
Fly
Fishing. The guests are fishing our beautiful, private Gaula
Flyfishing beats situated middle Gaula, 3 km downstream, also
north from Stören and about 40 km from the Atlantic Ocean.
Altogether approx 3,1/4,1 km of East bank (right side) and 0,3/0,5 km of
West bank of the famous Gaula river. There will be only 20/25 fly fishermen at the same time on
these beats. The guests are divided in four/five groups of max five persons each. The
stretches of river are divided in five fly fishing beats. Beat
1: Rostad and Sanden pools. Beat 2: Bruahölen and Svingen pools.
Beat 3: Gyllteigen, Gyllsaga and Röskaft Söndre Vest pools (Röskaft
Söndre Vest pool
is available
8-12.6 and
3.7-31.8). Beat 4: Stasjonshölen and
Rönningen pools. Beat 5: Röskaft Söndre beat (this beat is available
for the weeks
30, 31 and 34). Every group of five
persons have 500-1300 meters long beat at a time. The beats are
rotated between fishing groups every six hours. Only fly fishing
with fly rod is allowed. Bag limit is one salmon per
person per day. If fisherman kills a salmon, he must stop fishing
until midnight. All seatrout must be released.
New Beat 2010 -
Röskaft Söndre.
Fishmaster has leased a new good fishing beat on Gaula River.
Röskaft Söndre beat is approx 1 km long and is located about 1
km below Gaulfossen on the East (Right) side of the Gaula.
Röskaft Söndre beat is one of the best beats of the Gaula, the
average catch is about 100 salmon per season. The beat consists
two long pools and short fast rapids between them, it is very
beatiful and prolific beat and can be fished well in all water
levels. The beat will be joined to our Fishmaster Gaula
Flyfishing rotation fishery for the weeks 30, 31 and 34 for the
season 2010. During these 3 weeks Röskaft Söndre beat will be
added to our Gaula rotation fishery as a beat number 5 and one
more fishing group of 5 persons will be included.
New Pool 2010 - Röskaft Söndre Vest.
Fishmaster has
leased a new good pool on Gaula River. Röskaft Söndre Vest pool
is approx 180 meter long and is located 1 km below Gaulfossen on
the West (Left) side of the Gaula. Röskaft Söndre Vest pool is a
good and prolific pool with good catch statistics and can be fished
well on most water levels. This pool will be joined to Fishmaster
Gaula Flyfishing rotation fishery for the week 23 (8-12.6) and weeks
27-35 (3.7-31.8) for the season 2010. During these weeks this new
Röskaft Söndre Vest pool will be a part of our Gaula rotation fishery
Beat 3 (in addition to Gyllteigen and Gyllsaga pools).
Fly Fishing Tackle.
For fly fishing for salmon on Gaula
we recommend 12-15 ' foot double handed rods for lines #8-11 and
suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Floating, sink tip or
intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines but please
bring also medium sinking shooting head for possible high water
conditions.
Disinfection of Fishing Gear.
Before fishing starts everyone must disinfect
their fishing gear and buy a Norwegian state license. State
lisence can be bought and disinfection can be done
at nearby Stören Natursenter or Stören Camping.
Flies. Good fly
patterns for
Gaula are for example Gaula Green Butt, Red Butt, Black Sheep, Green Highlander, Greenlander,
Sunray Shadow, Black & Green and Silver & Black.
Accomodation for fishermen
is in the main building of Hage, Gyllteigen or Öran farm. All these
houses are located close
our Gaula fishing beats. The
buildings are from the 19 th Century and they are restored for
fishermens needs. There is a big living room, a well equipped kitchen,
several bedrooms for 1-3 persons, freezer, toilet,
shower. Guests can cook their food in the kitchen but the food is
not included in price.
Travel Arrangements. Fly
fishing trips to Gaula will be arranged throughout the fishing
season and the packages can be booked according to the client’s
preferred dates subject to availability. Anglers
will take flight or car transport to Norway. It is about 1
hours drive from Trondheim airport to the lodge. Jouni Rauha from
Fishmaster will work there as a lodge manager, shows the accomodation and fishing beats to guests. Fishing week begins
at 16 o'clock on Saturday and ends next Saturday at 10 o'clock.
