Fishing - Sweden, Gotland

Fly Fishing or spin Fishing for seatrout in Sweden, Gotland. Fishmaster arranges hosted fishing trips to Gotland. The Gotland is the biggest island of Sweden and is located towards east of mainland. The Gotland has good ferry and road connections and offers good fishing for seatrout. Enjoy the fishing surrounded by a beautiful landscape.

Fly Fishing, Spin Fishing. Gotland is famous for long shallow beaches that suit excellent for fishing from the land or by wading. The most popular fishing methods are spin fishing or fly fishing. Species you can catch there are seatrout and sometimes pike. Please bring your own waders and fishing tackle with you. The fishing for trout on Gotland is often magnificent. The seatrout is self reproducting, has high average weight, the flats are generally easy to wade and the season is long. You will wade lime stone flats, reefs and sometimes even sand to catch the trout, which often hunts very close to the shore. In many areas it is possible to wade very close to the shelf separating the shallow flat from the deeper water, where large quantities of baitfish and shrimp is gathered due to the breaking of the waves. The average weight of the seatrout is about 5 lbs but specimens around 18 lbs are caught. There is a bag limit of 1 seatrout per person per day.

Fishing Tackle. For fly fishing for seatrout on Gotland we recommend 9 ' foot single handed rods for lines #7-9 and suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Floating, sink tip or intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines depending of water level and temperature. Spin fishing rods should be long handled and medium-heavy action with plenty of power for big fish and should be recommended for 1-1,5 oz lures.

Flies, Spoons. Good fly patterns for Gotland are: Shrimp flies like Pattegrisen, streamers. Good spoons are Vicke, Toby, Salamander in colours: gold, orange, red

Season. The seatrout season is more or less October to May. We arrange fishing during the whole season but remember that booking in January or February means it might be cold even though the Gotland winter is not hard. But there is a certain charm to fishing these months; the fishing is as good as any other month. On top of that more fish is silver coloured and in great condition. From September 1:st to December 31:st, fishing in areas with spawning streams is prohibited. Minimum size for trout is 50cm.

Accomodation. Accomodation for fishermen is in nice and well equipped self catering cabins, close the sea and fishing places. There is a big living room, a well equipped kitchen, several bedrooms for 2 persons, freezer, toilet, shower. Guests can cook their food in the kitchen but the food is not included in price.
