Fishing. Los Roques is called the paradise of tropical fly fishing and this huge area consists of different type of flats; white sand, marl and turtle grass that can be waded easily. The fishing can be done with heavy single hand fly rod. There are not many tropical fishing places in the world which can offer as variable and good fishing as Los Roques. Tarpon, bonefish, permit, jacks and big barracudas can be fished there.

Fishing tackle. 9 feet long 7 or 8 weight fly rod is good for bonefish and one 9 or 10 weight for tarpon and permit. High-performance reels with a good brake system are required, capable of holding 200 - 250 yards of 20-pound backing. We recommend weight forward tropical floating fly lines. For bonefish and permit we recommend 12-foot knotless leaders, and 12-pound fluorocarbon shock tippet. For tarpon 16 to 20-pound test bimini twist leaders and 50 or 60 pound monofilament hard shock tippet.

Flies. Good bonefish flies are for example Clouser Minnow, Crazy Charlie, Bonefish Special, Gummy Minnow and small crabs tied on hooks 4 or 6, sand and light-brown. Permit: Rag Head Crab, Brown Special, Velcro Crab and Del´s Merkin tied on hooks 2 and 4. For tarpon and snook: streamers, deceivers and seaducers on hooks 1/0 brown and orange, black and yellow, orange and yellow, olive and white, Black Death and Purple Death. The Gummy Minnow is a terrific pattern for tarpon.

Accomodation. The guests will accomodate at El Gran Roque island in small guesthouse. Double bedrooms with shower. All meals are included. Dinners feature seafood, lobster, fresh fish, tropical fruits and vegetables.

Travel Arrangements. Fishing trips to Venezuela, Los Roques will be arranged throughout the fishing season and the packages can be booked according to the client’s preferred dates subject to availability. Anglers take flight to Caracas and meet taxi driver at the airport and will be taken to Caracas hotell for the first night. Next morning trip continues with short flight to Los Roques.
