 Brazil
Amazon, Xeriuni 5-16.12.2007
Fishing trip to one of Fishmaster travel destinations;
Amazonas in Brazil - Xeriuni river.
We fished for 6 and half days by using mostly fly fishing equipment, classes 8-10
and rod length was often 9' feet. We had an exellent fishing for
peacock bass. Our party of six fishermen caught total number of 1010
peacock bass and some other species as traira, piranha, jaconda and
aruana.
The biggest peacock bass of this trip was caught by Mr Darwin
Peterson from Alaska. This magnificent fish weighed 17 pounds
(approx 8 kg). My personal best fish was 13 and half pounds peacock
bass (approx 6,2 kg). The best and most effective
flies were large streamers 5-6 inches long in colours white/blue,
orange/yellow and chartreuse.
The fishing was done by casting from flat bass boats equipped with
40 hp outboard motor and electric motor. The local guides seemed to
very professional and had extremely good attitude and knowledge of
the Xeriuni river. The bottom of the Xeriuni river was mostly
sand and the depth of the fishing places varied between 1 and 2
meters. The water temperature must
have been around 25 degrees because the water didn't feel cold at all.
The water was brownish with sight depth around 1 meter.
The weather during our trip was fine and sunny most of the days, daytime temperatures varied round 30 degrees celsius and
night time temperatures round 20 degrees.
Only one day was cloudy and rainy all day, some other days there was short rain showers. The wind was moderate
on most of the days so there was no trouble with hard
wind and fishing was quite easy.
The accomodation
was in floating cabins provided by River Plate Outfitters. The camp proved to be a nice and cosy
and all personal seemed to be very professional and helpful in all
matters. We had double bedrooms with air-conditioning. The beds proved to be excellent and rooms were
just fine and clean equipped with own shower and toilet. The camp
was moved several times during the week and thus we had virgin
fisheries every day.
The delicious food in camp was mostly Brasilian
cuisine including for example chicken, meat and delicious local fish. Special thanks for the cook
Luis. Beer, liquer and wine was
also included in price.
The
personal of the camp was friendly and willing to help
in all matters. Special thaks to Alex, the camp manager and Brahma
and Martin who took care of us in Manaus and hotel Tropical. All transports were well in
time and schedule. Only some minor changes occured in flights
between Manaus and camp.

Uusikaupunki 8-11.11.2007
During this long weekend we fished for pike with with two boats close Fishmaster
fishing Lodge in Uusikaupunki. We used fly rods, sinking 2/3 fly
lines and big flies made specially for pike fishing.
We managed to catch approximately 50 northern pikes, the biggest one
was caught by Mr Reijo Kaartinen. He managed to catch and release a
6 kg pike with 6' blue/white Marabou Deceiver fly. Other good and
productive fly colours were red/white and red/black. The most part
of the fish caught weighed between 1 and 2 kg and all fish were
released carefully after fight. The weather was cloudy and we had some rain
showers during these days. The southern wind
was mostly moderate so the conditions for the fly fishing by the sea were
very good. The sea level raised a bit during the period and was over normal which is a good
for pike fishing. The accomodation in Fishmaster lodge by the sea
was very nice and really something special for us. The food provided
by Fishmaster was delicious.

 Canada
British
Columbia 30.9-8.10.2007
Alaska, Siberia, Kola Penisula, Norway…
All these destinations were considered by us when we planned our
'once in a lifetime' fishing trip. Finally we decided to travel to
British Columbia in Canada. Jouni Rauha from Fishmaster took care of
fishing arrangements and we planned to fish for salmon and sturgeon
on Fraser-, Harrison- and Vedder rivers. On 30th September we took a Finnair
flight from Helsinki to London and from there with British Airways
to Vancouver.
After long flights our guide Randy was waiting for us at the airport.
We drove about one hour to Fraser valley and Chilliwack and settled
to our hotel.
Next morning Randy picked us 4 (Jarkko, Jussi, Olli and Pekka) up at
the hotel. He gave us good quality waders and we drove to the river.
In the morning we fished for salmon from the boat and shore and in
the afternoon we tried for sturgeon fishing. During the trip the
landscapes were outstanding and the weather was mixed and varied
between rainy and sunny.
There was extremely lot of salmon
in the rivers we fished. They jumped continuously and we could see
them swimming in the river. We had extremely good fishing and caught
a big number of different species of salmon, average size was round
2-3 kg but we managed to land some bigger also. The fishing was
catch and release that suited fine for us. The sturgeon wishing was
done from the boat and we all managed to get contact with these
monster fish, the biggest we caught was 155 cm long, great fun. Randy Beck was an experinced and
nice guide and knew the waters well. The fishing equipment provided
was good quality and thus there was no need to bring own tackle
with. The lures were tackled with one single hook to make releasing
the fish easier. After six fishing days we spent couple days in
beautiful city of Vancouver. We felt absolutely satisfied with the
trip as a great experience.

 Scotland
Spey, Lower Wester Elchies 8-22.4.2007
Spring
fishing trip to a Fishmaster destination - World famous Spey River in Northeastern Scotland.
We fished at Lower Wester Elchies lovely and variable beat close
Aberlour. The Spey river is well known for it's early run spring salmon -
springers. The spring in Scotland had started early this year and the conditions
for fishing were good. There had been less snow on the Cairngorn
mountais this winter, so the water level dropped slowly during this
2 week period from 1 foot 10 inches to 1 foot 4 inches according to
LWE gauge. In other words the water level was a bit under
normal this time of year and the water temperature varied between 7
and 10 degrees. The weather was mixed between nice and sunny and
cloudy almost every day, day time temperatures rising up to 15
degrees celsius but the nights were still
chilly, the temperature dropped close to zero degrees.
The first landed fish of our party was caught by
our British guest Mr Graeme Simpson who caught a nice 10 pound springer from Sandy Hole pool
with yellow and black tube fly. He caught next day also 9 and 13 pound
springers, both at the top of Campbells pool. Mr Tove Andersson from
Sweden caught a sea liced 9 pounder salmon at the top of Neck of
Garden pool. Also Mr Reijo Kaartinen was very satisfied when he landed a
13 lbs sealiced springer at Sandy Hole. I
myself succeeded to land a 15 lb springer, again at Sandy Hole.
The most effective flies were again tube flies with yellow and
black, in quite small sizes this time. We used floating or sink tip
fly lines most of the time and they seemed to be working well in
these conditions. We saw
quite often salmon jumping or rolling on the surface and had now and then pulls that kept the
fishermen's interest in high level. Our accomodation
was in nice and well equipped house close the Spey river and Lower
Wester Elchies beat. One afternoon we made an interesting excursion
to a nearby Aberlour whisky distillery.

Mörrum 31.3-5.4.2007
Spring
fishing trip to world-famous Mörrum River in Southern Sweden. Mörrum
is known for it's good stock of big seatrout. The spring has started
early this year and the conditions for fishing were good; the flood
varied between 55 and 45 cubics per second - in other words a bit
over normal this time of year and the water temperature was a bit
over 7 degrees. The weather was nice and sunny almost every day, day
time temperatures rising up to 15 degrees celsius but the nights
were still chilly, the temperature dropped close to zero degrees. The first landed fish of our party was caught by
myself. The fish was 90 cm salmon and weighed approx 5 kg. After
taking some fotos the fish was carefully released. Salmon took a red
and black tube fly in the pool 31. The second fish
was a 2,5 kg seatrout, caught by Mr Pasi Rastas from the upper part
of the pool 15. Next happy fisherman was Mr
Martin Honkanen who caught a nice fresh 2,5 kg seatrout with green
and orange tube fly from pool 12. Another good size seatrout was
hooked at the end of pool 16 but unfortunately the hook pulled out
after long battle.
The fishing was nice in a sunny and fine weather
with good company. We saw sometimes fish rising and had now and then
some pulls that kept the fishermen's interest in high level. Our accomodation
was in nice cabin close the Mörrum river and pool 15.

 Venezuela
Los Roques 3-12.2.2007
Fishing trip to one of Fishmaster travel destinations;
Los Roques in Venezuela with customers. Los Roques is located approx
120 km north from Venezuelan coast.
We fished for 7 days by using fly fishing equipment, classes 8-10
and rod length was quite often 9' feet. We had an exellent fishing for
bonefish. Our party of four persons caught total more than 50
bonefish and a good number of different other tropical fish species.
The biggest bonefish was round 4 kilos. The best and most effective
flies were Gummy Minnows, Gotschas and some Crabs like Bonefish
Bitters.
The fishing was done both most of the days from small islands or
reefs by wading in warm caribbean water. The bottom of the sea was mostly
sand and not too
deep and thus suited well for wading. The water temperature must
have been over 20 degrees because the water didn't feel cold at all.
The water was very clear and had a beautiful greenish colour.
The weather during our trip was fine and sunny almost
every day, daytime temperatures varied round 30 degrees celsius and
night time temperatures round 20 degrees.
Only one day was cloudy and there was two short rain showers. The wind was moderate
on most of the days so there was no trouble with hard
wind and fishing was quite easy.
The accomodation
was in posada Acquamarina which proved to be a nice and cosy place
and all personal seemed to be very professional and helpful in all
matters. We had double bedrooms with ceiling fans at second floor of
this nice posada. The beds proved to be excellent and rooms were
just fine and clean equipped with own shower, toilet and fridge. The food in
posada Acquamarina was mixture between Italian and Venezuelan
cuisine including for example spaghetti, pasta and delicious
different local fish. Special thanks for the cook. Beer and wine was
also included in price that was a nice surprise for us.
The
personal was friendly and willing to help. All transports booked in advance were almost in
time and schedule. Only some changes occured in flights
between Caracas and Los Roques.
