articles about Fishmaster fishing trips all over the world. |
 Finland
Ahvenanmaa 4-7.12.2008
A hosted Fishmaster fly fishing trip to Finland -
Ahvenanmaa island. We fished both Hammarudda and Eckerö coastal
areas in South and Southwestern part of Ahvenanmaa and stayed in big
and well-equipped cabin in Hammarudda, close the fishing places. Fly
fishing was done by wading from the shallow coastal waters.
The weather ow the weekend was mostly cloudy and air temperature was few
degrees above zero celcius. Wind was moderate or slow and came from Eastern
side and turned into North, which is not very good for fishing in that area,
best fishing winds normally come from South or from West. Our group of 7 fishermen caught total of 4 seatrout, which sizes were
about
40 cm and 1,7 kg and 1,8 kg and 2,5 kg.
Some other seatrout were lost after short battle.
Nikolai Holttinen caught the biggest seatrout of trip, nice example of 2,5 kg
with pink shrimp fly. Jarkko Suominen managed to land another nice 1,8 kg
fish with same pink fly. Other flies that worked were Drags Devil streamer
in green and orange colours.

 Canada
British Columbia 21-29.9.2008
Hosted Fishmaster fishing trip to Canada, British
Columbia on 21-29th September 2008. Our fishing group of six persons
stayed in Royal Hotel Chilliwack that proved to be nice and clean
small hotel and suiting excellent for accomodation for fishing trip.
We fished with fly fishing and spinning tackle in Fraser, Harrrison
and Cilliwack/Wedder rivers. We caught a big number of chum- and sockeye
salmon, mostly from Harrison river. Biggest chum salmon we caught
were over 10 kg. Best flies were purple and black combination
marabou flies. In addition we landed and released three white
sturgeon, biggest ones being 198 and 180 cm long and estimated
weight of these fish were approx 90 and 70 kg. The fishing was nice in mixed and quite warm
weather with good company. The landscapes of Fraser river valley are
breathtaking. Our guides Randy and Bill from Ultimate Sportfishing
proved to be very professional and skillful fishing guides with good
sense of humour. Thanks a lot for Randy and Bill.

 Slovenia
Sava Bohinjka and Soca 8-15.9.2008
A hosted Fishmaster fly fishing trip to Slovenia - Sava Bohinjka
and Soca rivers. The weather was sunny and warm during in the beginning
of the week and turned to be cloudy and colder towards the end of
the week. Water level was normal and water was gin-clear with some
greenish tone and the fishing conditions in both rivers were very
good. Our group of 7 persons caught big number of brown
trout, rainbow trout, marble trout and grayling. The biggest fish
caught were brown trout and rainbow, both approx 55 cm long, couple
bigger fish around 65-70 cm were lost. Most used fly fishing
technique was fishing with small size 14-16 nymph with floating line
and strike
indicator. Also some small dry flies and surface caddis pupas worked
well in some parts of the river. Fly fishing was challenging and interesting
because the fish were very spooky in clear water. The fish could be
easily spotted from bridges and other high places. We stayed in two
small guest houses by both rivers; Soca and Sava Bohinjka. Both
guest houses were nice and clean and offered excellent food and warm
hospitality.

 Scotland
Spey, Lower Wester Elchies 13-27.4.2008
Spring
fishing trip to a Fishmaster destination - World famous Spey River in Northeastern Scotland.
We fished at Lower Wester Elchies lovely and variable beat close
Aberlour. The spring in Scotland had been quite cold this year but
still the conditions
for fishing were good. There had been good amount of fresh snow on the Cairngorn
mountais this spring, the water level was during this
2 week period between 2 foot 6 inches and 4 foot 1 inch according to
LWE gauge. In other words the water level was a bit over
normal this time of year and the water temperature varied between 4
and 7 degrees which is bit lower than normal. The weather was quite
windy and mixed between nice and sunny and
cloudy almost every day, day time temperatures rising up to 10
degrees celsius but the nights were still
chilly, the temperature dropped close to zero degrees.
The first landed fish of our party was caught by
our Finnish guest Mr Panu Korhonen who caught a nice 15 pound springer from
tail of Millford pool
with Willie Gunn tube fly. Mr Frode Olderkjaer from
Norway caught a sea liced 10 pounder salmon at the tail of Millford
as well. Mr Olderkjaer caught another 2 springers, one at
Millford and another at Sandy Hole. He also caught one fresh
seatrout of 2 lbs. I
myself succeeded to land and release a 7 lb springer, again at
Millford pool.
The most effective flies were tube flies with yellow and
black, in quite big sizes this time. We used intermediate or medium
sinker
fly lines most of the time and they seemed to be working well in
these conditions. We saw quite often salmon jumping or rolling on the
surface and had now and then pulls that kept the fishermen's
interest in high level. Unfortunately we lost many fish, for some
reason the salmon were taking very carefully and thus lot of them
were lost. Our accomodation was in nice house
close the Spey river and Lower Wester Elchies beat.

 Sweden
Mörrum
29.3-4.4.2008 and 5-11.4.2008
2 Fishmaster spring
fishing trips to world-famous Mörrum River in Southern Sweden. The spring has started
early this year but then suddenly the weather turned back cold
again, still the conditions for fishing were good; the flood
varied around 50 cubics per second - in other words a bit
over normal this time of year. The water temperature was first 4 degrees and
raised towards the end to 7 degrees celcius. The weather was nice and sunny almost every day, day
time temperatures rising up to 10 degrees celsius but the nights
were still chilly, the temperature dropped close to zero degrees. The total catch of our party was 11 fish divided
into 4 salmon and 7 seatrout. The size of the fish was nice and they
were between 1,5 and 5,5 kilos. The fishing was nice in a sunny weather
with good company. We saw sometimes fish rising and had now and then
some pulls and also lost some decent size fish that kept the fishermen's interest in high level. Our accomodation
was in nice cabin close the Mörrum river and pool 12.

 Belize
Ambergris Caye 16-26.2.2008
Fishing trip to one of Fishmaster travel destinations;
Ambergris Caye in Belize.
Our group of 7 persons fly fished for 7 days by using fly fishing equipment, classes 8-10
and rod length was often 9' feet. We had a good fishing for
bonefish, jack crevalle, barracuda and spanish mackrels.
The biggest caught bonefish and jack crevalle were around 5 pounds. The best and most effective
flies for bonefish were light coloured Crazy Charlies and for jacks
worked best Clouser Minnow in colour white/tan. We had a couple
tarpon on for a while but unfortunately lost them both.
The fishing was done by casting from boats equipped with
40 hp outboard motor or by wading on the huge shallow flats. The local guides seemed to
very professional and had extremely good attitude and knowledge of
the San Pedro area.
The weather during our trip was fine and sunny most of the days, daytime temperatures varied round 30 degrees celsius and
night time temperatures round 20 degrees.
Only one day was cloudy, but the wind was quite hard most of the
days that made casting somewhat tricky in some cases.
The accomodation
was in Royal Caribbean Resort. We had double cabins/bedrooms with
air-conditioning. The beds proved to be excellent and rooms were
just fine and clean equipped with own shower and toilet.
The delicious food in resort restaurant was mostly Belizean cuisine
including for example chicken, meat and delicious local fish.
Special thanks for the cook.
The
personal of the camp was friendly and willing to help
in all matters. Special thaks to Nando, the resort manager. All
transports were well in time and schedule.
