Gotland 29.10-5.11.2009

Hosted Fishmaster fly fishing and spin fishing trip to Gotland. Our group of 10 persons fished for seatrout for 4 days on beautiful coast of Gotland. We caught total of 31 seatrout, most of them were smallish, between 40-47 cm and were carefully released. In addition to these we caught 7 nice seatrout weighing 2-2,4 kg. Both flies and spoons seemed to be working well. Pattegrisen ja pink Drags Devil worked best as flies. Fluorescent red spoons were best as spinning bait. The weather was variable and winds changed from moderate to hard.

Spey, LWE 22-29.3.2009

This week the conditions on the Spey were challenging, the water rise several times and salmon seemed to be running hard. The weather was windy and chilly, we had a mixture of rain, sleet and sun. We caught total of 5 kelts and lost more than 10 fish, for some reason the salmon seemed to take our flies very gently, often on the dangle and most of them were lost after short battle.

Maldives

Maldives 21-30.1.2009

A hosted Fishmaster fishing trip to Maldives. We flew from Helsinki via Frankfurt to Male in Maldives and continued there with short air taxi flight to destination. We had booked whole Mas Hibaru mothership for our group. The ship was nice and worked well as our base in atoll during the whole trip. The crew of the ship was friendly and professional and made excellent food for our group of 7 persons three times a day. We fished every day in different spot. The fishing places were flats and reefs and proved to be extremely nice to fish. Water was very clear and it was easy to see the fish in shallow water. The bottom was mostly sand or coral or mixture between those two.

While fishing on reefs and flats we caught couple bonefish, plenty of bluefin and striped trevallies weighing up to 6 kg and lot of other species as well. The highlight of the trip were giant trevallies we managed to catch. The biggest gt was caught by our guide Mr Petri Varis. This big fish weighed approx 15-16 kg. I myself managed to catch a gt of approx 5 kg with white Clouser Minnow. Mr Mika Pöllänen caught nice gt of about 4 kg, also with Clouser Minnow fly. Also Timo and Petteri caught both giant treavallies of approx 5 kg. We also lost some hard battles with big gt:s that proved to be too big and strong to be landed. While changing the place with mothership we trolled couple Rapalas and caught couple yellowfin tunas approx 5-6 kg, one dogfish, one rainbow runner and one barracuda. The weather was warm and mostly sunny. The daytime temperature around 30 degrees and nightime temperature around 20 degrees. The wind was moderate or slow.
