World class fly fishing for salmon on Nordlingafljot river in Iceland. Fishmaster will arrange a hosted fly fishing trip to Nordlingafljot 5-11.9.2012. The Nordlingafljot is one of the most beautiful and prolific rivers located in western Iceland 150 km North-East from Reykjavik.

Nordlingafljot. The Nordlingafljot is one of the most attractive salmon rivers in Iceland. The natural surroundings, adjacent to the Husafell area, are spectacular, the river itself is a dramatic combination of gravel-flats and waterfalls and gorges, ensuring the variety of pools fished are great. Nordlingafljot is a tributary to the glacial river Hvita, the fishable part of the river is around 13 kilometers long and the average catch for the last 5 years is about 1000 salmon per season for 5-6 rods.

Fly Fishing. With 75 marked pools, plus smaller pools unmarked in between, the Nordlingafljot offers a fishing experience to please any angler. With only six rods fishing over 13 kilometers of river there is enough space to move freely around. In addition, the chances of catching salmon on the Nordlingafljot are higher than in most other rivers in Iceland. There is also possibility to share a rod, also two fishermen who fish only one person at a time, then also the price is much cheaper. The fishing season is from July 18th until the end of September. Daily fishing hours are from 7.00 until 13.00 and again from 16.00 to 22.00. After August the 14th the hours change from 15.00 to 21.00 in the afternoon because of shorter daylight. Number of rods: the season starts and ends with 5 rods but 6 rods are allowed during high season, from July 30th to September 12th.

Flies. Good flies for Nordlingafljot river are for example Blue & Black, Black Sheep, Frances, Snaelda, Blue Charm, Sunray Shadow and Willie Gunn. 

Fly Fishing Tackle. For fly fishing for salmon on Nordlingafljot we recommend 12-14' double handed rods for lines 8-10 or 9-10' single handed rod for lines 7-9 and suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Floating, sink tip or intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines but bring also sinking shooting head for possible high water conditions. It is mandatory to have your fishing gear disinfected on arrival at Keflavík international airport.

Accomodation. At Nordlingafljot self catering fishing lodge there are several double bedrooms, shower, toilet, well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable livingroom.

Travel Arrangements. Fly fishing trips to Island, Nordlingafljot will be arranged during the fishing season, ask for availability. Guests will take an interational flight to Reykjavik, Keflavik airport and continue with rental car to fishing destination, Nordlingafljot river. It's about two and half hours driving from airport to the lodge. Depending of flight schedules fishermen might need to stay one night in Reykjavik hotell in both ends of the trip.
