Fishing trip to one of Fishmaster travel destinations;
Ambergris Caye in Belize.
Our group of 7 persons fly fished for 7 days by using fly fishing equipment, classes 8-10
and rod length was often 9' feet. We had a good fishing for
bonefish, jack crevalle, barracuda and spanish mackrels.
The biggest caught bonefish and jack crevalle were around 5 pounds. The best and most effective
flies for bonefish were light coloured Crazy Charlies and for jacks
worked best Clouser Minnow in colour white/tan. We had a couple
tarpon on for a while but unfortunately lost them both.
The fishing was done by casting from boats equipped with
40 hp outboard motor or by wading on the huge shallow flats. The local guides seemed to
very professional and had extremely good attitude and knowledge of
the San Pedro area.
The weather during our trip was fine and sunny most of the days, daytime temperatures varied round 30 degrees celsius and
night time temperatures round 20 degrees.
Only one day was cloudy, but the wind was quite hard most of the
days that made casting somewhat tricky in some cases.
The accomodation
was in Royal Caribbean Resort. We had double cabins/bedrooms with
air-conditioning. The beds proved to be excellent and rooms were
just fine and clean equipped with own shower and toilet.
The delicious food in resort restaurant was mostly Belizean cuisine
including for example chicken, meat and delicious local fish.
Special thanks for the cook.
The
personal of the camp was friendly and willing to help
in all matters. Special thaks to Nando, the resort manager. All
transports were well in time and schedule.
