Fishmaster Trip Report -
Gaula Flyfishing Season 2005
Buyout of commercial salmon fishing
from Tronheimsfjorden received its target and there will be 80%
less nets in ocean close the river mouths. The agreement is for the
next five years starting 2005.
It will bring annually thousands more salmon to the Gaula river.
During the season 2005 there has
been caught 134 salmon and 5 seatrout, all in all 139 fish from our
beatiful Gaula Flyfishing beats. That season can well described as
medium season, our 3-year average catch is now 149 fish/season.
The season started with high water
conditions but soon we were in very good conditions and had good
fishing all the time, the flyfishing for salmon at its best. During
the July ang August the conditions were good, the water temperature
varied between 10 and 16 degrees and water level was about normal.
The Biggest salmon of the season
was caught by Jarkko Karvinen. This big salmon weighed 13.5 kg and
took tube fly in Sanden pool. During the season we caught also a lot
of grilse which means there will be a good run of middle sized
salmon in 2006.
Gaula proved to be the best salmon
river in whole Norway 2005 with total catch of 37,5 tons of salmon
and seatrout.
