Gaula Flyfishing Season 2007
Season 2007 (1.6-31.8)
The
season 2007 started with very warm weather and high and cold water.
During the first week fishing was was slow but after that conditions
become much better. From second week of of June and onwards we had a
good run of big salmon and 2 SW salmon and very nice fishing at our
pools. This season the numbers of grilse were much smaller than
normal.
July and August were mixed weather months
and some occasional rain showers and few decent rain rised the water level
occasionally and thus the fishing conditions were good. The water temperature
also varied a lot between 9 and 16 degrees.
Total of 135 salmon and 8 seatrout
were caught by our fly fishing guests. The biggest salmon of the
season 2007 of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was caught on 17 th June by
Mr Nichlas Erdhage at Sanden pool. This big salmon weighed 14.0 kg
and took Black tube fly. Mr Pekka Häyrinen caught biggest seatrout
of this season. This big fish took Green butt fly at Gyllsaga
pool and weighed 2.7 kg.
25.8-31.8.2007
The last week of the season was reasonable in varying conditions. The catch of the week
at our Gaula beat was 6 fish between 1.3 and 13.2 kg. The biggest
salmon of the
week was caught by Mr Jari Ojanen. He caught and released a 13.2 kg
male salmon at Gyllsaga pool with Greenlander tube fly. He also
caught a grilse at Bruahölen pool. Petteri Juvakka caught
and released a 11.0 kg salmon and also a grilse at
Bruahölen pool.
The weather was chilly and rainy. In the beginning of the week we had
decent rain and the water level in Gaula raised to 185 cubics and dropped
to 80 cubics towards the end of the week. Water temperature dropped
from 14 to 8 degrees.
18.8-25.8.2007
Fishing
continued reasonable in varying conditions. The catch of the week
at our Gaula Flyfishing beat was 7 fish divided into 5 salmon between
4,2 and 9.5 kg and 2 grilse 1.3 and 1.5 kg. The biggest fish of the
week was caught by Mr Reijo Kaartinen. He caught and released a 9.5 kg
male salmon at Svingen pool with Sillen tube fly. Pasi Korvonen caught
4.2 kg salmon at
Bruahölen pool with Silver & Black tube fly.
Mr Jari Koski continued his good fishing and caught a 6 kg salmon
(C&R) and 1.5 kg grilse at Bruahölen pool. Mr Martin Smith caught
and released his first Gaula salmon; 5.0 kg at Gyllteigen pool. The weather was mixed
between sunny and warm and cloudy. In the beginning of the week we had
decent rain and the water level in Gaula raised to 80 cubics and dropped
to 20 cubics towards the end of the week. Water temperature was
between 14 and 16 degrees.

11.8-18.8.2007
Fishing
continued quite good in varying and nice conditions. The catch of the week
at our Gaula Flyfishing beat was 12
fish divided into 6 salmon between 3,2 and 10,0 kg and 6 grilse
between 1.0 and 1.7 kg. The biggest fish of the
week was caught by Mr Olli Timonen. He caught and released a 10 kg
female salmon at Bruahölen pool with tube fly and also 1.7 kg
grilse at Sanden pool. Pasi Korvonen caught 3.5 kg salmon at
Gyllsaga pool with Green Butt tube fly.
Mr Jari Koski made his personal salmon record when he caught a 7 kg
salmon and grilse at Sanden pool. Ilkka Neva caught and
released approx 9.5 kg salmon and also grilse at Bruahölen pool. The weather of the week was mostly cloudy and
well suitable for fishing. In the beginning of the week we had some
decent rain and the water level in Gaula raised to 110 cubics and dropped
to 30 cubics towards the end of the week. Water temperature was
between 15 and 17 degrees.

4.8-11.8.2007
Fishing
continued quite good despite the difficult warm weather and low water
conditions. Our fly fishing beat proved again that we can have some
nice fishing even in low water conditions and catch of the week was 12
fish divided into 3 salmon between 4.0 and 6.2 kg and 9 grilse
between 1.5 and 2.5 kg. The biggest fish of the
week was caught by Mr Tuomo Turunen. He landed
6.2 kg salmon at Sanden pool with Green Butt tube fly and also 1.6 kg
grilse at Gyllteigen pool. Pasi Korvonen caught 4.5 kg salmon at
Svingen with Silver black tube fly and two grilse at Bruahölen pool.
German fisherman Dennis Werner caught 4.0 and 1.7 kg fish at Sanden
pool with Phatagorva tube. The weather of the week was mostly very
warm and sunny and thus the water level in Gaula dropped from 50 cubics
to 20 cubics towards the end of the week. Water temperature was
between 15 and 17 degrees.
28.7-4.8.2007
Fishing and conditions continued
quite good. Our Gaula Flyfishing beat's catch of the week was 10
fish divided into 6 salmon between 3.5 and 7.7 kg and 4 seatrout
between 0.8 and 2.7 kg. The biggest fish of the
week was caught by Finnish fisherman Pekka Häyrinen. He landed
7.7 kg salmon at Gyllsaga pool and also 4.6 kg salmon and 2.7 kg
seatrout at the same pool. Another Finnish fisherman Hannu
Niilekselä caught 6.0 kg salmon at Gyllsaga and
5.0 kg (C&R) salmon at Bruahölen pool with Black and Orange and
Black and Red tube fly. The weather of the week was mostly cloudy and
in the beginning of the week there was some heavy rain in the whole
Gaula valley and thus the water level in Gaula raised to 180 cubics
and dropped back to 50 cubics towards the end of the week. Water temperature was
around 13 degrees.
31.7.2007.
All female salmon must be released on Gaula
1.8-31.8.2007 all female salmon must be
released on all Trondheimfjord rivers; Gaula, Orkla,
Stjördalselva and and Verdalselva. Also fishing with worm will be
forbidden in all these rivers. This season hasn't been that good as
previous years and that's why the river owners have made a good and wise
decision to not allow to kill any female salmon between 1-31.8.2007 and
thus make sure there will be enough salmon in these rivers in spawning
time.
21-28.7.2007
Fishing and conditions continued
quite good. Our Gaula Flyfishing beat's catch of the week was 12
fish divided into 8 salmon and 4 grilse. The biggest fish of the
week was caught by Danish fisherman Thomas Sonderstrup. He landed
8.6 kg salmon at Bruahölen pool. He also caught 4.2, 3.0 and 1.0 kg
fish at Sanden pool. Finnish fisherman Kimmo Österman landed 6.3 and
6.0 kg salmon at Bruahölen with Gaula Green and Black fly. Italian
fisherman Sergio Moro caught his two salmon 4.6 and 1.4 kg at
Gyllsaga pool. The weather of the week was mostly cloudy and during
the week we had some rain showers that kept the water level in Gaula
river nice level between 40 and 50 cubics. Water temperature was
around 12 and 13 degrees.
14-21.7.2007
Nice fishing week again. Catch of
the week was 20 fish divided into 13 salmon, 4 grilse and 3 seatrout. Most part of the fish were 2
SW salmon and the biggest fish was caught by Mr Reijo kaartinen. He
landed 8.5 kg salmon at Bruahölen pool. He also caught 5 kg salmon
at Gyllsaga pool. Swedish fisherman Michael Rosander landed 5.5 and
5.8 kg salmon at Bruahölen. Mats Eriksson landed 7.1 kg salmon with
Phatagorva fly at Sanden pool. Lars Järvesjö caught 5.2, 4.5 and 2.4
kg salmon. The weather of the week was mostly
cloudy and Tuesday we had proper rain in whole valley that raised
the water level to 220 cubics. Towards the end of the week it
dropped back to 60 cubics per second. Water temperature dropped from
15 to 11 degrees.
   
7.7-14.7.2007
The total catch of the week at our
Gaula beat was 15 salmon weighing 1.2 - 9.7 kg, most part of the
fish were 2 SW salmon. Kenneth Lundell took a biggest fish of the
week at Bruahölen pool. Salmon was 9.7 kg and took classic Blue
Charm fly. He also caught another salmon of 5.2 kg at the same pool.
Leo Niemantsverdriet landed 9.6 kg salmon at Sanden pool. The
weather of the week was mostly cloudy and Tuesday we had some rain
that raised the water level to 120 cubics. Towards the end of the
week it dropped back to 35 cubics but Friday evening we had some
rain in upper river that raised the level to 52 cubics on Saturday
morning. Water temperature was around 15 degrees.
   
30.6 - 7.7.2007
This week's total catch of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
10 salmon weighing 3.1-10.6 kg. The biggest salmon of the week
was caught by Danish fisherman Niels Hougaard who landed 10.6 kg big
fish at Bruahölen pool. The weather of the week was mostly sunny and
warm and the conditions challenging for salmon fishing, daytime air temperatures round
25 degrees and
water temperature between 13-15 degrees. During the fishing week the
water level dropped from
50 cubics to 35 cubics at the end of the week.
23-30.6.2007
Good
fishing week again. This week's total catch of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
17 fish: 2 grilse (1.5 and 1.2
kg) and 15 salmon weighing 3.5-12 kg. The biggest salmon of the week
was caught by Scottish guest Graham Cameron who landed and released 12 kg big
fish at Sanden pool. He also caught 9.5 kg at Bruahölen and 6 kg
salmon at Sanden pool. All his fish were caught with Black and Green Helmet
tube fly. Mr Pekka Korhonen managed to catch 9.0 kg salmon at
Gyllteigen pool with Black sheep tube and 8.9 kg at Rönningen pool
with Greenlander tube. The weather of the week was mostly cloudy and
well suitable for fishing, daytime temperature round 15 degrees and
water temperature between 12-14 degrees. At the beginning of the
week we had a thunder and heavy local rain in upper valley that
raised the water level temporarily to 120 cubics where it dropped to
50 cubics towards the end of the week.

16-23.6.2007
Good
fishing week in variable weather and conditions. The total catch
of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was 8 salmon, weighing 3.6-14 kg.
Nichlas Erdhage caught the biggest salmon of the week, a 14 kilos
beauty. Frode Olderkjaer caught a big 11,5 kg salmon at Sanden pool.
Per Ove Thone hooked and landed 9.8 kg salmon with big Green
Highlander tube at Bruahölen pool. The weather varied between sunny
and warm and cloudy. The water level dropped first from 100 cubics
to 60 cubics and raised back to 100 cubics towards the end of the
week. The water temperature varied between 10 and 14 degrees.

17.6.2007
14.0 kg Salmon caught at our
Gaula Flyfishing beat. Last night at 1.30 a Swedish fisherman
Nichlas Erdhage hooked a big salmon at the tail of Sanden pool and
after a long and really hard fight he managed to land it in the
upper part of Bruahölen pool. The big salmon took a black tube fly
and is so far the biggest salmon caught this season at our fly
fishing beat. As predicted this season seems to become a good season
for catching big salmon in Gaula river.
9-16.6.2007
Great fishing week for big salmon
in good conditions on the Gaula river. We landed total 13 salmon and
1 seatrout at
our Gaula Flyfishing beat. The salmon were in prime condition and weighed
3.5 - 11.6 kg. The seatrout weighed 1.9 kg. Also many big salmon were lost after long and hard
battles - but that's part of the game. The most succesful flies of
the week were Greenlander and Night Diver tubes. The weather was
cloudy and a bit chilly that suited perfectly for the fishing. The
river level was medium and varied between 150 and 90 cubics. The
water temperature was around 10 degrees.

12.6.2007
During
ther last days we have experienced very nice fishing for big salmon
at our Gaula Flyfishing beat. We have lost several big fish after
long battle but luckily also could have landed several big salmon.
The landed fish have weighed 7.5, 8.6, 9.1, 10.2 ja 11.6 kg. The
weather has changed to a cloudy and more moderate
daytime temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees. Very nice conditions
on the river.

10.6.2007
The conditions on Gaula river have
improved during the last days and the water level has dropped slowly
to a moderate 150 cubics per second. During the last couple days we
have started to see more salmon at our pools and have had several
strikes and one lost fish after long battle.
The weather has been extremely warm
and the daytime temperatures close to 30 degrees. The water
temperature has rosen to moderate 12-13 degrees centigrade and also
the water is very clear and has some beautiful greenish tone.
1.6.2007
The fishing season has started
with high water level in Gaula river in Norway. The last days of the
May were extremely warm and caused a lot of melting water and also
the last day of May there was a heavy rain in Gaula valley that
caused the river a sudden rise up to over 800 cubics in second.
During the first day the water dropped to 400 cubics and temperature
raised from 6 degrees to 9 degrees.
The weather has been very fine, sunny and warm. Day time max
temperature has been over 20 degrees and night time temperature
round 10 degrees. During the first day of the season
30 salmon has been reported to Stören Natursenter catch
statistics, biggest 14,8 kg.
