Week 34 and 35 (20-31.8.2011)
Great fishing period in the end of
August. Total catch of the last 11 days of season 2011 of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
good 34 fish divided into 29 salmon and 5 seatrout.
Joonas Turunen fished our Gaula beat first time and caught 7,9 kg
salmon at Bruahölen and 10,0 kg salmon at Röskaft Söndre. Antti
Manninen caught 10,5 kg salmon at Röskaft Söndre and 2 kg grilse at
Röskaft Söndre Vest. Jukka Juntunen caught 8,4 and 7,1 kg salmon. The weather was variable, mostly cold.
Water level varied between 150 and 45 cubics and water
temperature was 12-16 degrees. This season 2011 was again excellent
on our Gaula Flyfishing beat, total of 385 fish were caught, divided into
370 salmon and 15 seatrout. Average weight of salmon was very good -
almost 6 kg and biggest salmon was 15,1 kg.

Week 33 (13-20.8.2011)
Difficult fishing week - big flood
on Tuesday. Total catch of the week 33 of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
reasonably good 19 fish divided into 16 salmon and 3 seatrout.
Petteri Juvakka caught biggest fish of the week: 7,8 kg salmon with
Green Butt at Stasjonshölen and also 5,8 kg salmon with Orange &
Yellow at same pool.
Michael Rosander caught 6,2 kg salmon at Svingen and also 2 other
salmon at Röskaft Söndre. Magnus Hansson caught 3 salmon and 2
seatrout. Pasi Holm caught 6,8 kg salmon at Bruahölen and 5,5 kg
salmon at Röskaft Söndre. The weather was variable, mostly cold and
on Monday it rained very heavily in whole Gaula catchment area and
water raised to 1200 cubics big flood on Tuesday.
Water dropped then fast to 90 cubics on Saturday. Water
temperature was around 10-12 degrees.

Week 32 (6-13.8.2011)
Good August week. Total catch of the week 32 of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
good 26 fish divided into 25 salmon and 1 seatrout.
Andreas Bergman was top rod of week and also caught biggest fish of the week: 9,8 kg salmon at
Bruahölen and also 5 other salmon.
Anton Pousar caught 9,5 and 6,9 kg salmon at
Stasjonshölen with Willie Gunn
tube fly. Most part of the catch of the week were salmon of 4-7 kg,
average weight of salmon caught our beat this season is very good,
about 5-6 kg. The weather was cold and in the middle of the week
there were some rainy days that raised the water to 290 cubics.
Water dropped then slowly to 80 cubics on Saturday. Water
temperature dropped from 18 to 11 degrees.

Week 31 (30.7-6.8.2011)
Challenging fishing week. Total catch of the week 31 of our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
reasonable 20 fish divided into 19 salmon and 1 seatrout.
Jani Sillanpää caught biggest fish of the week: 9,5 kg salmon at
Bruahölen and also 2 other salmon.
Asko Saarinen caught 6,6 kg salmon and 1,7 kg grilse at
Stasjonshölen and 5,8 kg salmon at Bruahölen, all with Willie Gunn
tube fly. Tomi Saarinen caught with Green Highlander a fine 6,8 kg
salmon at Stasjonshölen and 5,1 kg salmon at Bruahölen. Water
dropped fast from 210 cubics and varied whole week between 60 and 90
cubics. Water temperature
was 18-19 degrees, that made fishing challenging this week. The weather was
very warm and there were some afternoon showers.

Week 30 (23-30.7.2011)
Good fishing week in variable,
fluctuating water
conditions. Total catch of the week 30 on our Gaula Flyfishing beat was
31 fish divided into 28 salmon and 3 seatrout.
Ari Puurtinen caught biggest fish of the week: 8,8 kg salmon at
Stasjonshölen and also 4,6 kg salmon at Sanden.
Kimmo Virtanen was Fishmaster of the week and caught 5 salmon. Water
fluctuated like jojo between 60-140 cubics that made river unsettled
and fishing quite challenging this week. On Friday morning we got some heavy rain on
whole Gaula valley
and water raised fast to 210 cubics by Friday evening. Next week
will begin in good dropping water conditions. Water temperature
was 14-16 degrees. The weather was variable and rainy several days.

Week 29 (16-23.7.2011)
Good fishing week in low water
conditions. Total catch of the week 29 on our Gaula Flyfishing beat was good

salmon.
Pekka Huhtela caught biggest fish of the week 10,0 kg salmon at
Sanden and 6,3 kg at Bruahölen and also 4,7 kg at Stasjonshölen.
Juho Härö was top rod of the week and caught total 6 salmon. Michael
Rosander caught 9,1 kg and 7,0 kg and 4,2 and 2,8 kg salmon. Water dropped slowly
from 45 cubics towards the end of
week to 22 cubics. On Friday we got some heavy rain on Gaula valley
and water raised to 95 cubics by Saturday midday. Water temperature
was 14-16 degrees. The weather was sunny and warm first part of week
and cloudy and colder later part of the week.

Week 28 (9-16.7.2011)
Excellent fishing week again. Total
catch of the week 28 on our Gaula Flyfishing beat was very good 56
salmon and 1 seatrout. This week plenty of big salmon around 10 kg
were caught. Petri Kaasalainen caught biggest fish of the week, 11,0
kg salmon at Bruahölen and 10,0 kg at Sanden and 5,4 kg salmon at
Röskaft. Sauli Liukkonen got 10,1 kg salmon at Gyllteigen and 6,5 kg
Stasjonshölen and few other fish. Mauri Honkanen caught 6 salmon
between 5,1-8 kg. We have already caught over 200 salmon this
season. There was heavy rain and thunder on Monday on Gaula valley
and water raised to 170 cubics and dropped slowly towards the end of
week to 50 cubics. Weather was
cloudy and cold first part of week and got warmer Thursday and
Friday. Water temperature dropped from 17 to 12 degrees.
The best flies were Greenlander and Willie
Gunn.

Week 27 (2-9.7.2011)
Fantastic good fishing week again. Total
catch of the week 27 on our Gaula Flyfishing fishery was very good 49
salmon and 1 seatrout weighing 1,0-9,3 kg. This week the Stasjonshölen, Sanden and Bruahölen were the best pools.
Cracking total of 20 salmon were caught during the week at Stasjonshölen. Our regular guest
Olof Göransson was again top rod of the week 27, like last year also and
caught fantastic 12 salmon, which he all released. Stefan Sieber did
also very well and caught 6 salmon. He also released all those
fish. Water level at Gaulfossen varied between 190 and 50
cubics. There were rain showers on Gaula valley on several days that
kept water level on very nice level for fishing. Weather was
variable and quite warm this week. Water temperature was 11-17 degrees.
The best fly patterns were Greenlander, Green Highlander, Willie
Gunn and Sunray Shadow.

Week 26 (25.6-2.7.2011)
Excellent last fishing week of June. Total
catch of week 26 on our Gaula Flyfishing rotation fishery was again very good 44
salmon weighing 1,6-10,0 kg. Most of the salmon caught this week
were between 4-8 kg. This week the Sanden, Bruahölen and Gyllteigen were the best pools.
Our regular guest Matti Viitanen was again top rod of the week and
caught 6 salmon. Total catch numbers of our Gaula Flyfishing beat in June was 93
salmon which is about double the amount comparing to previous years
in June. Water lever dropped slowly from
Saturday's 150 cubics and stayed several days at 60 cubics, dropped into 55 cubics on Thursday evening. Weather was
cloudy whole week and Thursday rained all day and water level raised
during Friday to 140 cubics. Water temperature was 11-14 degrees.

Week 25 (18-25.6.2011)
Excellent June fishing week. Total
catch of week 25 on our Gaula Flyfishing rotation fishery was very good 33
salmon weighing 3,5-11,0 kg. In addition this week we had new
Granöien beat at Stören where fished separate group of four
fishermen. They had also excellent fishing and caught 12 salmon,
whereas the 5 biggest fish were cracking 13,0 kg, 12,3 kg, 11,0 kg,
10,5 kg and 9,9 kg. So the total catch of all our Gaula beats this
week was 45 salmon. This week the Sanden, Bruahölen, Stasjonshölen
and Röskaft were the best pools. Water lever dropped slowly from
Saturday's 90 cubics to 50 cubics on Thursday evening. Weather was
cloudy whole week and Thursday rained all day and water level raised
early Friday to 200 cubics. Water temperature was 9-11 degrees.

Week 24 (11-18.6.2011)
At the beginning of the week there
was some heavy rain on the whole Gaula catchment area and the river
raised to 580 cubics on Monday. Water dropped though fast and
fishing become better in the middle and towards the end of the week.
Total catch of our Gaula Flyfishing beat on week 24 was good 15 salmon:
2,3-11,2 kg, most part of the fish were between 5-10 kg. Also this
week Röskaft Söndre Vest was best pool but all our beats gave
us some action and fish this week. Oliver Kjaer caught the biggest
fish of the week at Röskaft - 11,2 kg. Water lever varied between
580 and 100 cubics, so the conditions for fishing were good. Water
temperature was 9-12 degrees. The weather was varied and suited well
for fishing. Greenlander was the most effective fly pattern.

Week 23 (4-11.6.2011)
After quiet start for the week
fishing got better on Tuesday and last part of the week fishing was
good. The total catch of our Gaula Flyfishing beat on week 23 was very nice 11
big salmon weighing 7,0-10,0 kg. Röskaft Söndre Vest was still the
best pool but later part of the week there was activity on other
pools also. Group one had a great Friday afternoon at Gyllteigen
pool when Matti Viitanen and Jussi Rämö both caught big salmon -
10,0 kg and 8,1 kg and in addition Juhani Collan lost a big fish in
the same pool. Water level on Gaula varied between 110 and 340
cubics, there was some serious rain in the middle of the week and
water raised and dropped fast. During the week water temperature
raised from 9 to 12 degrees. Weather was variable and warm in the
end of the week. Best flies were Greenlander, Black & Green and
Sillen.

Week 22 (1-4.6.2011)
After very good opening day the
fishing slowed down. Our fishermen had some contacts with
fish but lost them all. On early Saturday morning Peter Terndrup
caught big salmon of 10,8 kg at Röskaft Söndre Vest pool. Fish took
Vaehaniva fly. So the total catch of our beat on opening periof
1-4.6 was 7 big salmon. Gaula water level has fluctuated between 160
and 180 cubics and water temperature has been 8-9 degrees, which is
just on the border salmon hasn't started to run up Gaulfossen yet.
So it has been quiet on our beats abowe Gaulfossen, all activity has
been at pools below Gaulfossen. The weather has been varying and
suited well for fishing. The highlight of the opening period was 115
cm/15,1 kg C/R salmon caught by myself at Röskaft Söndre Vest pool
on opening day. Fish took Greenlander tube, one of my personal
favourite Gaula flies.

Several salmon have been caught on
our Gaula Flyfishing beat. It has been a good start day for the
season and so far by the evening 6 salmon has been caught, sizes
between 7,5-15,1 kg. All fish so far have been caught at Röskaft
Söndre Vest pool below Gaulfossen. The photo presents happy Björn
Forberg with 7,7 kg salmon caught with Black & Green tube fly at
lower part of Röskaft Söndre vest pool.
During the day the water level in Gaula has dropped from 250 cubics
to 170 cubics and water temperature is moderate 8 degrees. So the
conditions can be described as good.
