| Fly fishing for seatrout on Rio Grande river in South Argentina,
Tierra del Fuego. Rio
Grande is one of the best seatrout rivers in
the whole world. Nowhere else in the world there is so much
seatrout as there is in the rivers of Tierra del Fuego. They also grow very big,
the average size of seatrout in Rio Grande is approx 4-5 kg.
Every season many seatrout over 8 kg will be caught, the biggest ones are round 10 kg.
Fly fishing season and nature.
The best season for this excellent seatrout fly fishing is from
January to mid April. The river is very beautiful and suits
excellently for fly fishing. The nature in Tierra del Fuego is
extraordinary and very beautiful. Besides good fishing, great
scenery and different animals that can be seen will make
this trip unforgettable.
Fly fishing. Fly fishing
will be done at Toon Ken, Villa Maria or Kau Tapen private beat on Rio Grande
river and there is always local fishing guide per 2 fly
fishermen. Local fishing guide will take you by car to different
fishing places and show where and when to cast. They know the
fishing places like their own hands and their english is
adequate. Both single and double handed fly rods can be used on
Rio Grande (AFTM class 7-10, rod length 9'-15'). A big seatrout
has here plenty of room to run and fishing hours are allocated
when the fishing is best. Fishing is 'catch and release' only.
Fly fishing tackle.
For fly fishing for seatrout on Rio Grande
we recommend 12-15 ' foot double handed rods for lines #8-11 and
suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Single handed rod
of for example 9-10' for lines 7-9 will be also fine. Floating,
sink tip or
intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines but please
bring also medium sinking shooting head for high water
conditions.
Flies. Popular fly
patterns for Rio Grande are dark tube flies, different Leeches and
Wolly Buggers, rubber leg nymphs.
Accomodation. The
accomodation for fly fishermen is in the main building of
Toon Ken, Villa Maria or Kau Tapen lodge. These charming buildings
are from the 20 th century and there are several double bedrooms with own
toilet and shower. The houses are located very close to the
river Rio Grande. In the dining room of the houses the guests
will enjoy delicious local meals and drinks. All meals and
drinks are included in the price.
Travel Arrangements.
Fly fishing
trips to Argentina, Rio Grande will be arranged throughout the fishing season and the
packages can be booked according to the client’s preferred dates.
Anglers will take a flight to Buenos Aires and
continue with domestic flight to Rio Grande. The guide will be
waiting on the airport and take you to the lodge by car. After
fishing week guide will take the anglers back to
airport.
