Fly fishing
trips to one of the most famous salmon rivers in the world,
Spey River. Fishmaster arranges hosted
fly fishing trips to the Lower Wester Elchies beat on middle Spey
in April. April tends to be good spring fishing month on Spey
and fishermen have good chances to catch some nice fresh salmon,
springers. The host and fishing guide will be
Jouni Rauha from Fishmaster and there is room for 5 persons including the host. Spey.
The Spey is located in the north-east of Scotland and it is the
second longest and the fastest flowing river in Scotland. It is
very famous and one of Scotland's big four salmon rivers.
The Spey is well known for its early run salmon and the fishing
season starts already on 11 th of February. There is good
spring fishing season from mid March until the end of May. The Spey
is a very beautiful river which suits excellently for fly
fishing. The fishing on Spey river is mainly catch and
release fishing.
Fly Fishing. Our fly fishing
group will fish the Lower Wester Elchies Beat on middle Spey, close
Aberlour. The beat is on the left bank and is 1,6 km long, so there
will be plenty of room for every fisherman. The whole beat is booked
exclusively only for our fishing group of five persons and it
consists of six pools: Bridge Pool, Sandy Hole, Campbells Pool,
Millford Pool, Broom Island Pool and the Neck of Garden. There are
pools for all water levels. The area is
beautiful and the river is easy to cover well
with fly. In the middle of the beat there is also a nice fishing hut on the riverbank.
Fly Fishing Tackle.
For fly fishing for salmon on Spey
we recommend 12-15 ' feet double handed rods for lines 8-11 and
suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Floating, sink tip or
intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines but please
bring also medium sinking fly line for possible high water
conditions.
Flies. Good salmon fly
patterns for
Spey are: Black Sheep, Dee Sheep, Black & Yellow, Willie Gunn, Munro Killer,
Monkey Fly, Allys Shrimp, Cascade and Garry.
Accomodation for guests will be in old
charming Scottish
house only 250 metres from the beat. In the cottage there is a toilet, a shower,
a living
room, a well equipped kitchen and several bedrooms. We will cook the food together
or dine at local pubs in nearby Aberlour village which offer very good food and
drinks.
Travel Arrangements. Fishing trips
to the Spey are always hosted trips. Anglers will first take flight to
Aberdeen. At the airport they will meet host Jouni Rauha from Fishmaster and
then continue to Spey valley by car, it is only an hour and a half drive.
During the fishing week host Jouni Rauha will take care of all car transports and after
fishing week he will give the customers a ride back to Aberdeen airport.
