Fly fishing
trips to one of the best salmon rivers in Europe,
Tweed in Scotland. Fishmaster will arrange hosted fly fishing trips to
the Tweed on 23-28.10.2012, 28.10-2.11.2012 and 6-11.11.2012. This is absolute prime time of
the autumn season, during our 2010 November trip our group caught 37
salmon and 2 seatrout. The destination will be the Nest beat in
upper Tweed and the host will be
Jouni Rauha from Fishmaster company.
We have
also a local full time fishing guide, ghillie.
Tweed. The Tweed is located
in the Southern border of Scotland and is one of the best salmon
rivers in Europe, average of 15000 salmon will be caught there
every year. The year 2010 was record year and about 24000 salmon
were caught. It is very famous and one of Scotland's big four
salmon rivers. The Tweed fishing season starts already on 1 st
of February and there is good spring fishing season from March
until the end of May but the main salmon run is from September
to November. The fishing on the Tweed is mainly
catch and release fishing. In October and November
many salmon over 20 lb mark are taken each autumn. Tweed certainly has the big numbers of
salmon. The best of back end fishing is from early October to
the end of November.
Fly Fishing. Our fly fishing
group will fish the Nest beat on upper Tweed, close Galashiels. The
Nest beat
is on the left bank and is approx tvo and half kilometres long, and maximum number of
rods is 5. All rods are booked exclusively for our Fishmaster group. The
Nest beat consists of 5
named pools: Rampy Pool, Boat Pool, House Pool, Policeman and Gullets. Only fly fishing is allowed and there are pools
suitable for all water levels.
Beat is beautiful
and easy to wade and cover well with fly.
In the middle of the beat there is also a small but comfortable fishing hut.
The river averages about 40 yards in width and the pools vary
from 5 feet to 10 feet in depth. The Nest beat offers great variety
of fishing and is excellent fly water including fast runs and deep
holding pools. Fishers are accompanied on the river by full time
ghillie.
Fly Fishing Tackle.
For fly fishing for salmon on Tweed
we recommend 12-15 ' feet double handed rods for lines #8-11 and
suitable fly reels with good quality brakes. Sink tip or intermediate shooting heads are most used fly lines but please
bring also medium sinking fly line for possible high water
conditions.
Flies. Good salmon fly
patterns for
Tweed are: Black Sheep, Willie Gunn, Black & Yellow, Munro Killer, Thunder &
Lightning, Monkey Fly, Allys Shrimp and Garry.
Accomodation for guests will be in
charming Scottish
house. In the cottage there is a toilet, a shower,
a living
room, a well equipped kitchen and several single and double bedrooms. We will cook the food together
in accomodation or dine at local pubs.
Travel Arrangements. Fishing trips
to Tweed river are always hosted trips. Anglers will first take flight to
Edinburgh. At the airport they will meet host Jouni Rauha and
continue to Tweed valley by car, it is only an hour drive.
